Seems like 'term', 'notion', and 'concept' are used differently in different papers. Are there any distinct guidelines on how to use these? I have consulted the dictionary but some thoughts from others would be nice :)
They are pretty close, yet not quite! The way I understand them:
'Term' is lexical: the name you attach to a thing.
'Concept' is cognitive: the idea you have about a thing.
'Notion' is perceptual: the feeling of an idea (or name) you have for a thing.

I agree with the answer completely, with the addition:
The Nation can turn into a concept
The Concept can turn into a term
But the Term has a clear scientific connotation, agreed upon by all, and can not be transformed into a Concept or Nation
