I am aware that this is an old question, but the answer posted is not relevant to wireless communications, which seems to be the intended discipline in the question.
As far as I know, both interference and collision are similar in the sense that when data packets interfere with each other, or 'collide', both data gets corrupted. I guess the word collision is more common for people working in networks and interference is more used among people in the physical layer. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
