Callister, Jr. says that "A composite is composed of two (or more) individual materials, (metals, ceramics, and polymers).The design goal of a composite is to achieve a combination of properties that is not displayed by any single material, and also to incorporate the best characteristics of each of the component materials." Metalls and alloys "are composed of one or more metallic elements (such as iron, aluminum, copper, titanium, gold, and nickel), and often also nonmetallic elements (for example, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen) in relatively small amounts. Atoms in metals and their alloys are arranged in a very orderly manner, and in comparison to the ceramics and polymers, are relatively dense."
I would like to say that composed materials can be combined as a macroscobic level or microscobic level and also with the nano-size particule levels. These levels productions can be used with the injection and compression moldings and thermal process Autoclave, VARTM and so on.
Metalls and alloys like composed material more than one or two metallic elements and nonmetallic elements combinations. These are, comparison to composite, metal or alloys molecules structure regularly arranged.
Composite: Made of 2 or more individual elements. They remain distinct even after the formation of a composite. There is no exchange of electrons or formation of any compounds or phases. It is completely immiscible. The success of the composite lies in getting strong inter-facial bonding.
Alloy: Made of 2 or more individual elements. They do not remain distinct after the formation of the alloy. The elements dissolve in each other to some of full extent. There is sharing of electrons. The lattice may distort due to alloying elements. No interface can be found between alloying elements. Several phases or intermetallic compounds may form depending upon the alloying elements.
