I (a biologist by education) was substitute teaching when a high school student wanted me to tell them an easy way to remember the definition of life. They said the scientific definition was difficult to remember. So I thought for a moment, …then responded with:
”An easy way to remember is, Eat, drink, breath, reproduce, & go to the bathroom.”
I wanted to give my inquisitive student an everyday way to define life. I think the above accomplished that. My student said, “I never thought of it that way before, thank you. That is a lot easier to remember.

In the book called "The Flashes", life is defined as follows.
Life is: The most important aim of the universe; Its greatest result;
Its most brilliant light; Its subtlest leaven;
Its distilled essence; Its most perfect fruit;
Its most elevated perfection; Its finest beauty;
Its most beautiful adornment; The secret of its undividedness;.......
Also understand that since life is the most important result of the universe, and its greatest aim and most valuable fruit, it must have an aim and result as vast as the universe.
For the tree’s result is its fruit, so the fruit’s result is the future tree by means of the seed.
Yes, just as the aim and result of this life is eternal life, so one of its fruits is thanks to the Ever-Living Giver of Life, and worship and praise of Him and love for Him.
And just as this thanks, love, praise and worship are the fruit of life, so are they the aim of the universe.
Understand also from this, the ugly ignorance and denial, indeed, unbelief, of those who say that the purpose of life is “to live comfortably, enjoy oneself heedlessly, and indulge oneself in pleasure”, and how they denigrate and insult the precious bounty of life, gift of consciousness, and bounty of reason, and what ghastly ingratitude they display.
The definition of life is simple ' To be alive" with all basic mental and physical necessities.

The worst definitions use the ‘defined word‘ as a part of the definition. This is what you have done.
But, as I have said, I am not looking for a philosophical definition, I am interested in an easy way for a student to remember the scientific definition.
Scintifically life can be defined as integrated biological functions of all cells, tissues,body parts at its optimum threshold in an living organisms.
