What is the criteria to choose preictal and interictal from long term EEG signal?

If I have number of EEG epochs of 1 hr, 2 hrs, 4 hrs and seizures are marked. I have to choose preictal and interictal from these EEG epochs. What should be the length of preictal and interictal, and from where in the EEG epochs it should be segmented?
