I am interested in clinical papers that have reported either positively or negatively on the use of potassium permanganate in wound healing. While there is a lot written about this agent we can only find four case studies and two trials. If people know of clinical data I would appreciate some feedback.

As a researcher currently in Archaeology, I really do not have the expertise to answer your question but thank you for including me.
I have searched in SciELO and Dialnet databases for articles in Spanish or Portuguese without much success. Closest match could be "a (study with) tadpoles of Rana catesbeiana (Shaw, 1802) in order to determine the lethal mean concentration of potassium permanganate as well as its histopathological effect"... Clear emphasis on toxicity and use "as a biocide in aquatic intensive cultures".

Nosotros lo hemos usado en ulceras muy exudativas de miembros inferiores, para aprovechar su efecto astringente con muy buenos resultados, mediante la aplicación de compresas empapadas en solución 1/10.000, durante 15 min. al menos 3-4 veces por día hasta conseguir los resultados deseados. Hay que protegerlo de la luz porque es fotosensible y la duración del preparado es inferior a 20 días. También lo usamos en casos de miasis para eliminar las larvas de insectos que contaminan heridas.
As I know potassium Permanganate or eosin are not more state-of-the-art due to their side effects.
Partly potassium Permanganate is used in atopic dermatitis against Staph. aureus.

Abstract
A 73-year-old female patient presented with acute very painful perianal ulcerations. She reported using various ointments and later potassium permanganate baths because of maceration of the rima ani as a manifestation of her psoriasis vulgaris. Suddenly after starting the potassium permanganate baths, necrotic areas developed with then became ulcerated. After excluding the relevant differential diagnostic considerations, we diagnosed ulcerations caused by a caustic burn from potassium permanganate. After stooping potassium permanganate baths and employing modern moist wound therapy, we attained complete healing after 8 months of treatment.

We must regard these agents as 'antiquated' and with little potential in light of many modern, effective alternatives. Quite why anyone is interested in them escapes me. I managed to get pot.permang removed from the formulary of a UK teaching hospital by working closely with pharmacy and medicines management on matters of safety, toxicity and modern alternatives.
Thanks everyone for your help. I agree this is a product that should no longer be used but the fact is that it is. In considering the evidence base it is interesting to see how much a hold this product has on some peoples practice yet there is not a thread of clinical evidence to support it. We have been digging to see what we can find which is why we put this out to research gate.

Remember that perhaps the most important part of any pharmacologic entity is what it costs versus other agents. If it has even a minor level of success, it's low-cost makes it highly desirable to a cost-driven formulary of today. I realize this is cynical, but it is also a fact.
In Mansons' Tropical diseases (2009) potassium permanganate solution (1:10 000 in water, as mentioned by Vega (see above), appears to have been used successfully in mild bacterial skin infections as a soaking agent for 20 minutes daily1 Thomas (1990) describes this agent as a wound cleansing solution for its mild disinfectant and deodorising properties in eczematous conditions and acute dermatoses2. In more recent work of Thomas (2010) potassium permanganate is not mentioned3. In view of the current problems with multi-drug resistance of microbes to antibiotcs and the paucity of new compounds, I think more work needs to be done to re-investigate the older therapies. Dyes like gentian (crystal) violet, methylene blue, brilliant green and eosin have recently received such attention4, the first two mentioned incorporated in a modern dressing material polyurethane foam5
