If by 'article', you mean research article, then I would honestly suggest for a standard textbook in comparison to learn a new topic. Research articles would tend to use a lot of jargon that relates to the topic and is intended to cover only a specific part of the topic, not as a whole. At the end you might get a lot from the overtones, but still miss out on the fundamentals. Standard textbooks would cover the necessary basics of the topics to equip you to understand articles of the particular subject should you wish to go further in depth.
Apart from standard books, it would be ideal to look through the Internet on the subtopics described in the book for various perspectives. And it would be advisable to refer more than one book on that subject.
