I am looking for the most practical way to measure either the mass or volume flow rate of the steam at 1-1.2 bar and 150-200 degC in an insulated 1/4" stainless steel tube?
Are there any measurement devices or techniques that are able to do this while exerting minimum pressure and temperature drop to the system?
Considering the fact the temperatures to be measured are beyond 100 deg C, a Metallic Tube Rotameter can be used to find the flow rate of steam. Various different sizes of Rotameters are available in the market ranging from 1/16'' to 4''. As the Rotameters are gravity depended flow meter, the chances of error is minimal provided the flow of the fluid is almost constant.

I suggest that you investigate the possibility to use a Coriolis mass flow meter.

I agree with Plane Mogensen, the most accurate mass flow meter measurement of gaseous phase is possible with Coriolis mass flow meter but expensive.

Most of the available measuring equipment is not suitable for my application because of two reasons:
1. High operating temperature
2. The tube is too small

Where does the steam exited....well you can throttle the steam at exit and collect the water, most practical way

We have tried that method but it is difficult to catch all the steam as it exits.
Now we are measuring the mass flow rate of the water inlet prior to the steam generator.
Knowing that mass is conserved. Mass flow rate of water supplied should be equal to the mass flow rate of the steam produced.
