Using sol-gel method for synthesis of CuS, we take 0.1 M of Cu(NO3)2.3H2O was dissolved in 50 ml of water under constant stirring until a homogeneous blue color solutionwas obtained. Then, 50 ml of 0.2 M aqueous thioacetamide solution was injected to the above suspension at 80 C. The resulting mixture was refluxed for 12 h in argon atmosphere under rigorous stirring. After cooling to room temperature naturally, the black product was collected by filtration and washed repeatedly with deionized water and ethanol several times to remove the impurities and by products. Finally the product was dried in oven at 60 C for 2 h.

No longer ‘nano’ if dried.... There will be no free, independent, discrete particles < 100 nm in a powder.

Sol gel method would be more easy to synthesis. We found modified sol-gel method that can make composites with CuS as well. If you regulate the concentration of the starting solutions you can easily make nano materials, specially nano-structures using CuS.
