I got a fraction contains of two or more compound by vacuum liquid chromatography with ethyl acetate:ethanol:water (100:26:10). The fraction was evaporate and i got chrystal mixed with brown semi solid. I want to get the crystal, what is the best solvent for recrystallization? Thanks.

I think, there is no perfect solvent to recrystallize a polar coumarin.

I think you could recrystallized from ethanol or water. Also, maybe you could perform a sublimation for your coumarin, you will get a very pure crystal.

Hi Alik Kandhita Febriani, if ethanol doesn't work, I would try diethyl ether. Another solvent which could give you very good results is acetonitrile. Try to dissolve your coumarin product in hot acetonitrile and let the solution slowly cool down to room temperature.
The best solvent to recrystallize a polar coumarin is dimethyl formamide(DMF) . 30% ethanol can also be used for crystallization
