I have question regarding TiO2 solvothermal synthesis. I used TTIP as the TiO2 precursor and ethanol as the solvent with ratio of 70:30 (TTIP : ethanol). The solvothermal product was combusted at 500 degree C for 3 hours. The problem here is the photodegradation rate of MB is lower than P-25 TiO2's while it's adsorption towards RR4 is very high (just after 5 min of adsorption test, the RR4 turned colorless). I tried prolonging the reaction time from 8 to 24 hours and adding acetic acid into the formulation but the degradation rate of MB kept getting lower. Do you have any opinion that can improve my method? Your opinion regarding this matter is very welcomed.

1) I am of the opinion that annealing at 500 oC will only give rise to Anatase phase. You are comparing your results with P25 which has a 80:20 Anatase to Rutile ratio. Be careful when you compare them !!
2) Are you using UV Light or Visible Light for excitation? Under UV light, no doubt your anatase will be excited but the P25 has a rutile phase which has a lower conduction band level than anatase and hence assist in charge separation leading to enhanced carrier lifetimes giving rise to higher activity. If you are using visible light, then obviously the rutile component in the P25 will degrade MB and whereas your synthesized anatase will not give any activity.
3) Adsorption maybe an important criteria, but it is not the only one.
