Dear all,
I am planning to collect water samples from a hot spring for parasitic protozoan (Giardia, Entamoeba, Balantidium, and Cryptosporidium, etc. which are reported to infect Japanese macaques).
As I have no access to laboratory during the field work, I will need to store the water for at least two months before further processing at laboratory.
Does anybody know the best method to collect, preserve, and store water samples for that purpose, or any references I could use?

It mainly will depend if you want the protozoa been alive all this time or just preserved for molocular biology screening.
For the first case, it would be problematic (depending on how much time you need to preserve them and depending also of the species you want to preserve (it would be different for cysts of Cryptosporidium and living flagelates for instance).
For the second case, i would suggest to standardize a technique to concentrate your samples and preserve them in alcohol 70%.
