I would like to conduct a drought experiments, wherein water treatments will be induced by reducing pot soil water content as a percentage of pot/ field water capacity. Do anyone know some standard gravimetric procedures that I can use to determine field/ pot water capacity of the soil?
As field method is the way to estimate the field capcity by field method. where demarcate the area of 1 sq. mt. with 1 ft bund around four side. saturate fully and cover it by mulch. after 12 hrs. take regular soil soimple periodically 12 hrs interval then estimate mosture content of soil by gravimetric method.when the soil mositure observation become constsnt that the constsnt value indicate the field capacity of soil by gravimetric method.

You may try the core method as suggested by the US Soil Survey Manual.
1. Please irrigate your field with surface irrigation method.
2. Select a bounded area from field such as 1 m2.
3. Cover selected area with a plastic.
4. Take several soil samples after 24 hr.
5. Determine soil moisture content by an oven for 18-24 hr at 105 oC.
6. This method known as estimation of FC by field method.
