Lots and lots of research work is being done and published these days.
This is likely to be greater than ever before in the history of science and other specialties.
With the arrival of the internet, there is easy transfer, storage and display of information. A number of journals have come up in recent years, providing publication opportunity to researchers.
With this background, what is that thing which ultimately urges someone to come up with a publication ?
Is it a passion for research.... or is it that research is a part of curriculum... or is it the rule to publish for job promotions... ... or is it a desire to be famous... ?!
Please share your opinions.
Two things.
1. Professional recognition as researcher ready to contribute to the society at the most especially to the future aspirants, and manufacturers or producers.
2. Professional benefits and financial dealings as patentization...etc.. plus self satisfaction.
For many scholars, publication in peer-reviewed journals is a requirement for promotion.

publish or perish
for most of us valid.. I would not be unemployed if I would have been more prolific in pubkishing. But I made my path up to the age of 50, why shouldn't it continue..
there is definitively a too high pressure on publishing, what comes out is: low level papers.. (see A. Anders new editor of AiP Journal of Appl.Phys.: raising the bar)
And still the authors rights situation is unpleasant, unless you go for open access.
In my own opinion, it may be driven by curiosity and challenging the status quo, leading to expanding frontier of knowledge and development.

The passion for research.... research as a part of curriculum... the rule to publish for job promotions... ... desire to be famous... and many more can be good reasons but I think the ultimate thing should be the desire to solve problems and contribute to knowledge.
Humans have made tremendous progress because of science . Research becomes science , only if it is published in journals . Therefore , it is the duty of every researcher to publish their work in journals . It is the passion for research that motivates a person to take up a career in science . Teaching institutes encourage faculty to do research for promotions , because it is the duty of the faculty to train students in research . If the faculty does not do research , they cannot train students & also deny opportunities to other talented researchers . The reputation & ranking of any teaching institute is based on its scientific contributions in the form of its publications in reputed journals & this also applies to nations & this is not possible without a talented faculty .

- Advance career
- Personal prestige
- Gain funding
- Financial reward
- Badges
- Science topic
- Similar topics
- Microbiology
- Scientific Research
