Hydrogel is a water-swollen, and cross-linked polymeric network produced by the simple reaction of one or more monomers. and the polymer of acrylic acid cross-linked with a polyfunctional compound are called carbomer. Can anyone explain me the basic difference between hydrogel and carbomer.
For me, hydrogel is a type of formulation more or less viscous with high water content (water-based). Carbomer is a molecule (polymer) with which you can make a hydrogel (but not the only one).

I think carbomer are good to make gels/hydrogels for various applications e.g. cosmetic products. they can absorb, swell and retail water (make hydrogel). so not necessary comparable . we can for instance make a carbomer hydrogel. Hydrogels are product and so more a generic name but carbomer can be used to make this product (hydrogel). Or for example we can make starch hydrogel but we might not ask the different between starch and hydrogel.
