What is the appropriate formula to measure passage rate in pigs?

I am going to do a study on passage rate. I am concerned about the appropriate mathematical model to calculate passage rate. There is multi-compartmental and non-compartmental models. Which one might be the best when applied to pigs.

Re-entrant cannulas can be fed to female pigs. The cellulose content of the food can be used as an indicator for the passage rate of the digesta in the small intestine. The passage rate can be calculated from the amounts of cellulose and digesta.
