What is the advantages of Gas phase infrared spectroscopy?
Normally, the substance is naturally gas phase (such as CO2, HCl, N2, NO2, etc), then gas phase FT-IR is necessary, but what is the advantage of gas phase FT-IR in case of solid and liquid phase material?

OK, so the alternatives to this would be mass spectrometric methods, e.g. SIMS. An issue that comes to my mind would be that in mass spectrometry, analyzing the main species at high partial pressures might come with the risk of oversaturating the detector or contaminating your spectrometry chamber. With the FTIR setup, maybe you can switch and clean your container easier, but there may be more to it which is not apparent to me right now.
