I am working on -SO3H- Activated Carbon. How can we proceed for the acid base titration method to determine total acidic sites in the catalyst (mmol/g) ?
we proceed for the basic acidic titration method to determine the total acid sites in the catalyst by the adsorption of a solution of n-Buthylamine taken in excess reacts and the rest of the solution is titrated with HClO4.
Titration method is not well chosen for solid catalysts. Go to temperature programmed desorption (TPD) analysis. Best is to use NH3-TPD for the determination of acidic sites.
The number of sulonic groups can be determined with the help of s-benzylisothiuronium chloride. This substance with sulfonic acids forms insoluble salts in water. Buy or synthesize this substance. Prepare an aqueous solution of a known concentration. Titrate your catalyst to a constant chlorine concentration.
