My experiment deals with the synthesis of the PNIPAM polymer in DMF. After the reaction, the solution is precipitated into chilled dry diethyl ether. I do not know what "chilled dry solvent" is, can anybody help me?
Did you check your monomer conversion by GC or NMR? Maybe you have very short oligomers that do not precipitate easily... In the meantime, you can evaporate the solution, re-dissolve in a small amount of solvent and add dropwise to cold ether (keep it in the freezer for a while) under stirring. In addition you can put your beaker with cold ether in an ice-bath during the precipitation. Success!
Hello.. I also tried to synthesis high molecular weight PNIPAM... always end up with 2K, 3K molecular weight and not precipitate in cold ethyl ether.. but it does in cold hexane... but low molecular weight...... what is the method you guys followed
