In my region (a small Himalayan helmet) a very little work has been done on its Historical aspects, though area is said to had been historically important in the historical past, i want to conduct a research on it, can it be done? if only a few literary accounts are available and very vague primary archaeological sources are there?

Oral History is the forefather of all forms of recorded written histories. It lost ground since the invention of paper and typewriters, yet, it is still present. Often it is authentic as it does not adhere to the official point of view'; an aspect that characterizes written history RECORDED by those in authority according to what could serve their interests. some claim that, oral history is unreliable as it is not systematic or scientific.
At one point every culture's histories were oral. With the invention of writing the necessity of rote memorization faded, but did not completely disappear. Cultural mythology, such as superiority/inferiority complexes or versions of what happened in wars are often transmitted orally, even in the modern day. Cultures which honor and value the wisdom of their elders learn a great deal via storytelling, a form of oral history even if the stories themselves are not always based on or exclusively contain fact.
