A deuterium has no excited state and only one proton, neutron and electron each. So, these seems like the charge state of an proton. But, how can the charge state be more than +1. Or, is this the notation for the characteristic wavelength of a deuterium ion as it transition from higher to lower energy levels. For example, from Paschen, Pfund to Balmer series.

Besides any answer, any literature source will be hugely helpful.
