Innovative teaching involves using innovative methods and teaching learning materials for the benefit of students. For example, teacher can utilize smart phones to get students responses.

‘Innovative teaching is a necessity for all teachers in order to meet the educational needs’ of our students. If my students cannot understand and remember through the way I teach (method A), I must give up A for an innovative teaching method B.

For my subject, Biology, that requires a lot of remembering, I find that music mnemonics are an effective teaching method because students enjoy this means of communicating information. New behaviors and new learning methods stimulate the brain to create new neural pathways or reorganize existing ones, fundamentally altering how information is processed.

Thanks for the weblinks related to music mnemonics- an effective teaching method 

I found out that there are at least 9 types of mnemonics (memory devices that help learners recall larger pieces of information, especially in the form of lists like characteristics, steps, stages, parts, phases)  exist and which type works best is limited only by the imagination of each individual learner. They are Music, Name, Expression/Word, Model, Ode/Rhyme, Note Organization, Image, Connection, and Spelling Mnemonics

However, teachers’ competency for innovative teaching is a key factor influencing innovative teaching performance. Some research points out that many teachers lack competencies for innovative teaching!

Education should not lead to the blunt memorization of information and the possibility of a creative use of this information, and in addition, the training should encourage the ability associated with the birth of new ideas, with the "inspiration" ...

Not all teachers can it. And not all students are able to do so!

A good teacher should be committed to using a variety of methods and tools to ensure that each student is fully engaged in learning and interaction is made in classrooms.

Innovative teaching for me is how a teacher can translate a complex theory in the classroom to a real-life reality based on experience and a variety of approaches to ensure that students understand easily about something is taught.

The innovative teaching is for me cardinal issue. The most important problem is achieved the main objective, which is fully engaged of students. For this purpose we must use as many methods and tools as many kind of students we have. This is precisely for me innovative teaching, and do not use only modern technologies.

Identifying and utilizing the ways in means in teaching wherein the concepts of the contents are clearly understood by the students and has prepared them to confidently apply them into practice...

Innovation can also mean going back to basics, if you find new ideas are not working. From there, you can start your search for new ideas again. Too often, we assume if we have gone down a new path, the only way is forward. Sometimes going back and starting again is a good idea.

The Information and Communication Technology has made many innovations in the field of teaching and also made a drastic change from the old paradigm of teaching and learning. In the new example of learning, the role of student is more important than teachers. The concepts of paperless and penless classroom are emerging as an alternative to the old teaching learning method.

In the attached file mind maps are introduced as another innovative teaching method .Mind maps, which is a simple technique for drawing information in diagrams, instead of writing it in sentences. The diagrams always take the same basic format of a tree, with a single starting point in the middle that branches out and divides again and again. The tree is made up of words or short sentences connected by lines. The lines that connect the words are part of the meaning.

COMPETENCIES IN INNOVATIVE TEACHING 

Innovative teaching is the process of leading to creative learning, by implementing new methods, tools and contents that can benefit learners and their creative potential. Instead of passively ‘absorbing’ the knowledge, students should be actively involved in the learning processes, participate and collaborate in real learning situations, and work on authentic learning tasks, can freely discuss their problems with teacher.

Four competencies (competencies=integration of knowledge, skills, and attitudes) are theorised as core competencies for teachers’ in innovative teaching. They are

1. Learning competency (learn about innovative teaching and improving teaching effectiveness, obtain the learning materials)

2. Educational competency (aware of innovative educational concepts and innovative teaching and learning principles, wealth of knowledge of their subject and pedagogy)

3. Social competency (ability to communicate with students from different backgrounds,  cooperate with others and build positive human relationships)

4. Technological competency (integrate modern educational technologies to enhance reasoning, provoke critical thinking, and deepen student understanding)

I have in  RG brochure in Russian (you can read it) about the methods of Neuro-Linguistical Programming (NLP) in the teaching of toxicology and radiobiology.
