I read in a textbook, Feature extraction is a technique for reducing the dimensionality for classification. in the case of signal processing how it works.
my research work is related to the EEG signal processing.
what are the different feature extracting techniques for EEG data?
whether classifying the EEG data like drowsiness and activeness how the feature extraction technique is useful ?

The purpose of feature extraction is not only to reduce the dimensionality but also to extract more useful/dominant information hidden in the signals by avoiding unnecessary or redundant info. Now with regards to relation with signal processing, usually signal is pre-processed to remove noise, interferences and artifacts before performing feature extraction. After features are extracted, Classification is performed based on the selected features. The performance of classifier depends on both how good the signals are pre-processed and how good the features are extracted. Typical EEG signal features found in the literature are:
