During the course of induction of avian vitellogenin by estradiol we observed a demethylation of the promoter region of the gene. The kinetics of DNA demethylation occurs within hours, Reference: H.P. Saluz, J.Jiricny and J.P. Jost: Genomic sequencing reveals a positive correlation between the kinetics of strand specific DNA demethylation of the overlapping estradiol/glucocorticoid-receptor binding sites and the rate if avian vitellogenin mRNA synthesis.
