What is differnce between a straight cylndrical as compared to a conical cylindrical scilntillator on the interactions of optical photons?

I basically want to ask like if there will be any difference in the way the optical photons interact with the two types of geometry. Like will there be any absorption, transmission, total internal reflection of photons in one case as compared to other?
