I want to apply 1v to the lumped port, when in project tree I right click on Excitation and choose edit source there are two options, (Incident voltage and Total voltage), I want to know what is the difference between these two? Also, in "Excitation in time domain" in help HFSS, I read that if in real we want to apply 1V to our model, in simulation we should define it 0.5V, is it correct?
Ah. A good question. It is about the particular model of port used in driven terminal simulation.
The total voltage is the voltage between pins in the model.
The incident, is a half of the voltage source inside the port... it may be badly named, so it is always a source of confusion. Why half? When the port is matched, one half of the source voltage is dropped on the internal resistance of the port, which is in series with the load. The voltage left on the load is the same, and equivalent of the total voltage (again, confusing naming). The things are different when the port is not matched.
Andrey Porokhnyuk In the "Excitation in time domain" in Help of ANSYS, it was explained that if in real I apply 1V, in HFSS I should apply 0.5V. But as I do not know the impedance of my model (load Impedance) I do not know how much of the applied voltage is reflected, maybe the mismatch cause more reflection than half. Now, imagine in real, I give the signal generator 1V pick to pick, and connect it with coaxial cable and SMA connector the input of Sensor (the thing that I am modeling in HFSS), in this case, which one should I use, 0.5V incident voltage or 0.5V total voltage?
Honestly, I design components, and have little to do with EDT circuit/board design features. So I am not sure, which is better. But definitely, the voltage will be divided differently and I have seen people in forums complaining on unexpected behaviour when connecting the models to their circuits. I guess, when you connect with a cable it is the incident V. when you drive the device directly with a buffer, it is the total V. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Muhammad Mostafa Amir Faisal Yes I checked it, but I did not get exactly what it means, I apply 1V to signal generator, and connect it by Coax cable to my model in real, but I did not get that in HFSS, this 1V should be applied as total or incident? I just learned from it , that I should define 0.5V in HFSS when I have 1V in real.
