It is important to bear in mind that the main differences between Cross-sectional and other observational studies (Case-control and cohort) are assessment of exposure and outcome in terms of exposure evaluation in different time (Case-control and Cohort, the first start from outcome and end with exposure "like this article: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1526820917301350 " And later start from exposure and finish with outcome 'Framingham Study") or at a specific time.
In cross-sectional study we look at exposure and outcome at the same time "doing a Snapshot". Moreover, we cant find a causal association, just we report that a significant association was found.
