Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorNomenclature Reeve (1849; pl. 1, sp. 4) discusses Linnaeus' duplicatus and acutangulus and considers they are of the same species. He therefore introduces the present name, referring to Turritella acutangula as listed by Deshayes, 1843 (not of Linnaeus, 1758).
Should the two Linnaean taxa prove to be of the same species, then Reeve's name remains accepted, else it should be considered synonymous to Linnaeus' duplicatus.

Hi Yambem - For me it is a kind of complex of species, whose "extremities" are to be found among Turritella attenuata Reeve, 1849, and Turritella duplicata (L., 1758). Look at the attached images.

I just want to know where Turritella acutangula is changed to some other name or existing in other countries except from India.
Should examine the Linnaeus holotypes, I maybe have been lost and, perhaps, should definitively adopt the name of Reeve. To date T. acutangula is considered synonymous of T. attenuata. I've got in the collection only to West India (Mangalore area), Sri Lanka (Batticaloa area), East India (Pondicherry area).
In India still I have descriptions of both T. attenuata and T. acutangula. I refer latest and old books published in India. The authors described very clearly.
Hi, Tenjing, i got ur mail too, its simple to differentiate both.
T. acutangula: you can see whorls distinctly keeled in the middle, first few whorls angulated with several sub-equal keels, later whorls angulated with two or three prominent keels, others disappearing or becoming obsolete, whereas, in T. attenuata: whorls are slightly bulged with a fine keel in the middle and the sutural constrictions consequently appear deeper.
Upper part of the whorls tinged bluish brown in unpreserved specimens. In T. acutangula upper half of each whorl is light brown colour.
Columella with thin polished callus near the parites. T. attenuata.
Shells are comparatively slender and considerably more elongated than T. acutangula.
Each whorl in T. acutangula looks like a conical with broad base, but in T. attenuata it looks like a spirally raised striations.

WORMS is a collection of info from many sources. I have also checked it. It seems that T. acutangula is now synonym of T. duplicata. However, it was just a note given, but they have removed the species name itself. If you get live specimens of both species, check genetic data, that me be worth of checking whether they belong to same species or different. All the best. I have sent a recent (2013) paper that deals with the revision of Turritella from India. I hope that would be useful for your work. regards. ben.
