I am puzzling that how to define what is emergent technology / software in the context of pre-service teacher education and what are such examples of technology / software which should be integrated into curricula and instructional practises
It's difficult to define or identify specific emergent technology since emergent means that the item is not yet available; it is "under development" or "in the works." The best advice I can give is what I do to stay on the alert for emerging educational technology/software. Go to several of the top ranked "educational technology" web sites and sign up to receive their e-newsletters or updates. That's helped me quite a bit. Good luck!
I agree with John - the use of emergent in ICT studies is problematic as what is emergent in 2012 is often considered passe in 2014. I would encourage looking at the educational technology sites (as suggested by John) but also consider ICT peer-reviewed publications such as JRTE, AJET, EdLib etc.
I think another meaning of 'emergent' is that of a noun, that is, something that 'emerges' as a result of a new context or necessity. If this is so in then case of the person who asked this question, then my best response is: simple authoring programs are the best option when pre-service teacher training comes into place. The programs that alow the adapting and manipulation of content to serve the specific needs of students, for instance. These type of programs empower the teacher students who need to integrate or modify existing programs to serve their students needs (i.ed. grammar, vocabulary and reading).
