I am working with the ERA5 monthly averaged data on single levels from 1940 to present (total precipitation). I converted the units from meters to mm by multiplying with 1000. However, the resulting values (maximum ~80 mm monthly) appeared too small. When I further multiplied by the number of days in the month, the values seemed unusually large. What is correct pre-processing before carrying out your analysis?

Emmanuel Rongmie Thank you for your help, but its conversion from hourly to daily. I wanted to ask about monthly downloaded data of precipitation given in ERA5. Since, averaged data is given and for precipitation, we take sum of precipitation not mean.
I was wondering why you would multiply by the number of days in the month. I guess that's because the dataset says "monthly averaged data". But the variable description (e.g., convective precipitation) says that it is the "accumulated precipitation that falls to the Earth's surface". The term average may be misleading. Multiplying by the number of days in the month then you yield very large numbers. If the number if mm is unusually small, what are you comparing against to conclude that?
