It is not a biological phenomenon like any other. It is biological, but for consciousness and subjective feeling, the biology is calling on physics that are not needed by the rest of biology.

Human consciousness is fundamental physics consciousness, forming assemblies to make qualia, connected by physics field and axons into a whole, enhanced by language.

Your definition is lovely to work with:

3 (self-awareness) A little more troubling; the trouble might be completely or largely removed just by definitions

Where our messages fork is that you tend to summarize that these things are happening in biological systems, whereas my focus skews more to how that might be so along with how that must be so.

But, yes, the right high-level model,

and the black-boxing is right #1 above (I call Level 1 C.), and then #2 (I call Level 2 C.), after which a whole lot of wiring and software can make a mind (Level 3 and 4).

People can specialize in any of these 3 areas of work, comprising the whole mission of understanding the mind.

A metaphor:

L1 is the transistor effect

L2 is the electronic components

L3 and L4 is building the machine

Then, the machine can come to know, remember, combine, and arrange.

Hi Scot Forshaw , Reading your abstract, it looks like you are pursuing the subjective part of subjective feeling, but how do you explain feeling? In particular, how do you explain pain? Is that out of scope? Regards.

to add my 2 cents.. with some weired thoughts.

Pain is only temporary pride.

Pain arises from the misery field (Mexican hut), while pleasure arises from the scalar field. :-)

Pain emerges from one of the 6 main barriers (causing degeneration of neuroenergetics based on errors (gaps and contradictions) in the reality construct causing turbulences on the spheric surface) of information flow (enthalpy/conscious experience).

The 6 barriers can be mapped to 3 layers of consciousness while the 4th layer is the focus point of layer 3 in Minkovski space (the defraction screen were past and future merge and are measured as now/t0):

L1: shame, guilt (from the conscious reality construct)

L2: pride, prejudice (from perception of the sphere)

L3: arrogance, irgnorance (from mindful attention)

L4: determines the question whether somebody wants to be "right" (in the current interaction/transaction), or is ready to learn something new (configuration of the flux capacitor at the center of the ZEF/building the machine).

However, there seems to be an even more important cosmological feature of consciousness connected to the "guiding wave" which sounds really crazy.

If we assume that life is a holographic projection and humans are an information packet in morphospace, consciousness might serve as a backchannel between sender and receiver of the information packet, communicating identity aspects like adaptability and resilience for change/no change of the transistor configuration, alignment and resonance for coherence, engagement and fulfillment with life for congruency between internal and external, or relative distance (measured by happiness) from pilot wave in oscillation pattern.

If the pilot wave is the extraterrestrial message of the universe, scrambled up with the Schrödinger wave function, then consciousness could, should, must be the parcel tracking system connecting sender, receiver and information packet to signal sender and receiver that everything with the packet is all right (integrity and balance), while trying to stay as close to the pilot wave as possible until we reach the final destination at the receiver's end.

In other words, consciousness seems to regulate information flow in phase transitions in a fractal manner across space time to identify individual location and momentum relative to space-time expansion, to ensure we don't change slower or faster than space time expansion (borders to pathology).

This does not explain local purpose of consciousness beyond happiness/unhappiness, but suggests nonlocal long term purpose with local phase transition, which may or may not be purposeful short term.

Does that make sense? Any comments?
