Dear researcher, first you should know what kind of habitat you are looking. you cannot work on all habitats. Diversity is surprisingly high even in aerophytic habitats. as for example i want to study the cyanobacterial diversity in agricultural land ( rice field).
as because more than 40% of total land area of maximum states are agriiland, it is not possible for a researcher to study each of the land (because sampling needs seasional collections with a reparation up to 3-5years). are there any rule/protocol of Random sampling such that a researcher can collect a better information of cyanobacterial diversity, distribution pattern with their collected samples which will represent a better information of the total locality/District/state.
i go to the rice fields, collect soil sample, culture in lab, identify the species, is does not give the idea of total region.
minimum number ( ???) of fields ((for sampling)must be needed in respect to total agriland of a locality to give an right assumption of cyanobacterial diversity of that region/locality/district/state
