In tables 2 and 3, for each model there is a hazard ratio (HR) for the outcome (depression: yes or no) and per covariate.
I have never seen the term "reference" used in a table of HR values before. What is it? It is being reported once per covariate e.g., a value from female but "reference" for male.
I'm fairly new to states related to clinical case reports/data, so this may be something quite basic.

Some packages label one group as the reference group. SPSS for example does this in logistic regression. This is the group that gives the constant term in a regression. If your package does this, look at the manual to see how that group is chosen. Best, David Booth
