Interested in knowing what research, policies or approaches available in addressing teacher absenteeism in developing countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa
Perhaps the best way to address this issue is through: strict rules, imposition of fines/penalty, a national competition among educational institutions for the best practices (National prize for the school/university with the lowest degree of absenteeism). The classical "stick and carrot" approach is still useful.
I really appreciate your response, I find your suggestions useful and worth thinking about.
Thanks for the website link too. My takeaway from the blog post “… the real losers are the students who yearn for an education but end up receiving no instruction.” I am just wondering if there will be a time when the “real losers” will be the teachers who are passionate about teaching but are ridiculously paid, with no incentives, staff housing, health insurance and professional development opportunities.
