Scheffer et al 2001 (Catastrophif shifts in ecosystems, Science 413) and a lot of citing references of this paper use the kind of scheme derived from Lotka Volterra bassins of attraction to caracterise the stability of ecological systems (see figure attached from Scheffer et al 2012). But in these schemes, we always miss a legend to the vertical axis. We could imagine someting like an anti-fitness... What do you think about it ?

the vertical axis here represents the level of whatever state variable is an appropriate measure of resilience for the system one is working on. It may be population size, the quantity of some renewable resource, credit balance, social cohesion, etc.
