In India, we have a social security legislation, the Employees State Insurance Act 1952, which envisages six types of benefits for the employees covered. One of these benefits is medical benefit. The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has been created under this law to administer these benefits. The ESIC has its hospitals and dispensaries almost all over the country. The covered employees can avail the health benefit facilities from them under this scheme. Employers and employees contribute every month towards this ESI fund, out of which different benefits are provided to the covered employees.
