I am using a commercial mild steel plate which is not heat treated. Plate is required to be heated at around 150°C for couple of hours repeatedly.
Hi, heating to 150C will have very little affect on Mild steel, on its properties or shape.
Has it been quenched or normalised? Such temperatures are typically used for stress relieving after a heat treatment.
It depends on how the steel was treated prior to this heating. If it was hardened repeated heating and holding at 150 will eventually cause a loss of strength. You say it was not heat treated and in that case it was probably soft annealed rather than hardened and then the repeated heating would not have any strong effect.
Thanks all for your valuable inputs, i need to heat it for 3-4 hours everytime . I hope die steel i.e. high carbon high chromium steel should behave in the same way?
I didn't understand the "repeatedly" part? obviously heated from RT to 150 however, how much repeating (i mean the frequency, is it 100 times a day ie).
