The rainforest would not return and the fertile soil has been washed away.
Grandes problemas, entre eles: a falta de água no local e formação de movimentos de massa (geomorfológico) - deslizamentos, ravinamentos...
It would lead to an ecological imbalance. Besides this, there would be reduction in oxygen (O2), and a potential increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations in the atmosphere.
I do not understand China and we will soon have no forests. If we are not careful, there will be a lot of deaths among people, animals and because there is little oxygen.
In such a case pioneer plants are going to take the place of trees and slowly build humus and growing conditions for other plants. Very slowly the soil is going to recover and enable first bushes to grow and later on trees. The resilience of nature is fantastic just have a look how forest devastated by fire are recovering or at the slopes of volcanos. It is just a question of time!
Human lives will become hell, Urbanization and lifestyles will disappear, and many will die of hunger, heat, drought and floods. Perhaps only tribes that know the secrets of traditional ways of living in environments without trees ara remain, and the earth will be more like colonies in Mars.
Dewanand Makhan
Dear Dr. Makhan,
This is a good philosophical question. Perhaps we can get an answer from the Second Law of Thermodynamics by Rudolf Clausius of 1850 which predicts that "as entropy (randomness) moves towards a maximum, ultimately everything in the universe will become completely random". At this point in time, there will be no more trees, no soil, no rocks, no mountains, no nothing!
This is an ecological imbalance. In addition, there would be a decrease in oxygen (O2) and a potential increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. The processes of soil erosion and weathering would be more pronounced. The area of fertile land would be reduced. Desertification processes - would lead to an even greater imbalance of the ecosystem. And this, in turn, would cause the mass extinction of species. Regards, Sergey Viktorovich Pushkin
A good example is Rapa Nui (Easter Island). No more trees led to war and disaster. The previously fertile island lost its soil, therefore, could not grow any food, so it became a sort of a desert with little remaining life.
That will be a big problem because of ecological imbalance - soil erosion, landslide, pollution, CO2, flood, and others.
Dear all, suffocation: trees are the lung of the earth. My Regards
With little oxygen, our lungs stop working and we will die out. I understand that all countries need wood and when wood is no longer and what do you do?
Forests are home to many biodiversity "hot spots" and play a major role in fixing the CO2 that we emit massively and which dangerously disrupts our climate: 40% of terrestrial carbon is stored in vegetation and forest soils.

Life could not exist on Earth without trees because they produce most of the oxygen that humans and wildlife breathe. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen using the process of photosynthesis. There would also be no rain without trees since trees absorb water from the soil and release it through evapotranspiration. Water vapor released through evapotranspiration is the major mechanism by which air is remoistened. Forests act as giant air filters for the world. Trees purify the air by absorbing pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, reducing pollution. Trees also help prevent topsoil erosion because they break the force of wind and rain on soil, their roots bind the soil, and their decayed, falling leaves are absorbed by the earth and enrich the soil. Trees conserve rainwater and reduce water runoff and sediment deposit after storms.Additionally, trees provide a supply of lumber, seeds, and fruit. Further, dead trees that fall and get buried in the soil eventually provide fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum products, among other things. Trees can also act as noise filters. Trees muffle urban clamor almost as well as walls do. Trees planted at strategic locations can decrease loud noises from airports and highways.
Benefits of Trees;
Here are 22 of the best reasons to plant and care for trees or defend a tree’s standing:
Trees combat climate change
Excess carbon dioxide (CO2) caused by many factors is a building up in our atmosphere and contributing to climate change. Trees absorb CO2, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles.
Trees clean the air
Trees absorb odors and pollutant gasses (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark.
Trees provide oxygen
In one year an acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people.
Trees cool the streets and the city
Average temperatures in Los Angeles have risen 6°F in the last 50 years as tree coverage has declined and the number of heat-absorbing roads and buildings has increased.
Trees cool the city by up to 10°F, by shading our homes and streets, breaking up urban “heat islands” and releasing water vapor into the air through their leaves.
Trees conserve energy
Three trees placed strategically around a single-family home can cut summer air conditioning needs by up to 50 percent. By reducing the energy demand for cooling our houses, we reduce carbon dioxide and other pollution emissions from power plants.
Trees save water
Shade from trees slows water evaporation from thirsty lawns. Most newly planted trees need only fifteen gallons of water a week. As trees transpire, they increase atmospheric moisture.
Trees help prevent water pollution
Trees reduce runoff by breaking rainfall thus allowing the water to flow down the trunk and into the earth below the tree. This prevents stormwater from carrying pollutants to the ocean. When mulched, trees act like a sponge that filters this water naturally and uses it to recharge groundwater supplies.
Trees help prevent soil erosion
On hillsides or stream slopes, trees slow runoff and hold soil in place.
Trees shield children from ultra-violet rays
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Trees reduce UV-B exposure by about 50 percent, thus providing protection to children on school campuses and playgrounds - where children spend hours outdoors.
Trees provide food
An apple tree can yield up to 15-20 bushels of fruit per year and can be planted on the tiniest urban lot. Aside from fruit for humans, trees provide food for birds and wildlife.
Trees heal
Studies have shown that patients with views of trees out their windows heal faster and with fewer complications. Children with ADHD show fewer symptoms when they have access to nature. Exposure to trees and nature aids concentration by reducing mental fatigue.
Trees reduce violence
Neighborhoods and homes that are barren have shown to have a greater incidence of violence in and out of the home than their greener counterparts. Trees and landscaping help to reduce the level of fear.
Trees mark the seasons
Is it winter, spring, summer or fall? Look at the trees.
Trees create economic opportunities
Fruit harvested from community orchards can be sold, thus providing income. Small business opportunities in green waste management and landscaping arise when cities value mulching and its water-saving qualities. Vocational training for youth interested in green jobs is also a great way to develop economic opportunities from trees.
Trees are teachers and playmates
Whether as houses for children or creative and spiritual inspiration for adults, trees have provided the space for human retreat throughout the ages.
Trees bring diverse groups of people together
Tree plantings provide an opportunity for community involvement and empowerment that improves the quality of life in our neighborhoods. All cultures, ages, and genders have an important role to play at a tree planting or tree care event.
Trees add unity
Trees as landmarks can give a neighborhood a new identity and encourage civic pride.
Trees provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife
Sycamore and oak are among the many urban species that provide excellent urban homes for birds, bees, possums and squirrels.
Trees block things
Trees can mask concrete walls or parking lots, and unsightly views. They muffle sound from nearby streets and freeways and create an eye-soothing canopy of green. Trees absorb dust and the wind and reduce glare.
Trees provide wood
In suburban and rural areas, trees can be selectively harvested for fuel and craft wood.
Trees increase property values
The beauty of a well-planted property and its surrounding street and neighborhood can raise property values by as much as 15 percent.
Trees increase business traffic
Studies show that the more trees and landscaping a business district have, the more business will flow in. A tree-lined street will also slow traffic – enough to allow the drivers to look at the store fronts instead of whizzing by.
You get scared if no trees, no rain, no water, no oxygen, no fruits, no seeds and many dead.
You mean only tree or all plant life. Without trees also life will go on.The phytoplankton are more productive than any plant.Algae ,Bryo and Pteridophytes all do photosynthesis and take CO2 for their growth and give out O2. There are ecosystems beyond timberline on earth where diversity is still high and life exist. Perhaps the climatic regulations functions and human need may get impacted, otherwise, earth will still be habitable.
Thank you very much V P Upadhyay. I mean trees, no trees, no rain and no rivers.
If trees disappeared, so would much of the planet’s biodiversity. would and thus it will lead to of extinction worldwide, So it must be preserved all remaining forests.
The first thing that came up my mind post the aforesaid scenario was a school going child going to school with a oxygen cylinder in back instead of his school bag and an helmet with oxygen hood for him. Really a devastating nightmare. May it never comes true.
If there are no more trees on earth, it is really environmental disaster in ratio of oxygen and Co2 levels.
Before this situation happens all life will have disappeared. Finito.
We will all die. Trees help to replenish the oxygen used by animals to respire plus sequesters considerable carbon dioxide amounts
Can we imagine, without trees, that we could sustain this universe?
No more trees, no more life.
The green world will move to the dead world.
We all talked about the environment to save then to protect them, but I think majority of us don't even put our effort to plant a tree.So if we don't start this initiative then that day will definitely come when there are no trees on earth.
With the help of photosynthesis process the leaf's on the trees release oxygen to the environment, if no more trees on earth then whole ecosystem will abrupt, which leads to diminish the human mankind.
