Assuming you would like to shift your research topic from that what you have done during your Master, and knowing that research world is changing very very quickly (It is not about what you love anymore).
How can one cope with this change and chose wisely his PhD program? What motivated you toward your certain choice ?

A research topic can be further delved into based on a Master's topic which I did for my PhD by marrying theories. But it has to be done immediately after the completion of a Master's programme to ensure its current value. This was motivating for me as I was interested to observe the research findings.
