I need a detailed an authentic refference for my above mentione dquestion. Can in-depth interviews be note down in writing form instead of recording in audio or video? When an interviewee doesnt allow to audio record the his/her interview then is there a provision or authenticity to keep interviews on note book?

I had a lady in my grounded theory sample (initial study re Living with faecal incontinence) who did not want me to record her voice. But she was happy for me to take notes. I went prepared with quite a detailed list of what I wanted to ask her (and left room for me to write on this), making notes (trying to write legibly) and, at the same time, keep track of where her responses were going, rather than making it like a questionnaire. I must admit that my data was not as in depth as when I had used an interview guide and tape recorder, allowing the participants to go off on relevant tangents. But because I wanted to see her because she had various characteristics that no-one else in my multivariational sample had; her data was very relevant and useful. She did not seem to be embarrassed or hiding anything, but just did not fancy being recorded.

Thank you Mary for your nice words. I wanted to take authentic refference in the light of above asked question. Your response agaisnt my question is satisfactory. It means , note taking technique can be appllied wherever manadatory according to the situation. In-depth Interview process need such an ideal situation where a person whom a researcher has goven an open space must be worry-free to be open with. When a person is completely free from any doubt then there will be insightful convesation and detail data regarding the phenomenon. Thank you again
