In sodic soils of Uttar Pradesh, species and culture systems that work best are those tolerant to higher pH and sodium—tilapia and certain Indian carps (e.g., mola, catla in managed systems) in controlled pond-based and hapa systems, plus integrated rice–fish or pond-cum-platform models where pond water (after treatment) supports fish and the dykes support salt-tolerant vegetables and fodder; careful water chemistry management and phased soil amendments are essential to sustain production.
