I am planning to write a literature review for my project dissertation and I'm confused on how to go about it.

I looked up some literature reviews and found out they all had two major writing styles: either a review of results and inferences from similar work other researchers have carried out or a "textbook" presentation of the research topic- for example, if the topic were "Coccidiosis in chickens reared in ***** farm", the literature reveiw is presented on the following headings- "Biology of coccidia, epidemiology of coccidiosis, diagnosis of coccidiosis, control of coccidiosis, pathology..........."

Which of these styles is proper for a literature review? Or are both fine, depending on the writer's preference or topic?
