According to some publications, An estimate of intensity of each Eimeria species in a mixed infection can be achieved by relating their proportions to the McMaster counts. These papers however did not state exactly how this was calculated. Does anyone have an idea? Thank you, in anticipation.

which host of Eimeria are you working on? For chicken coccidia, it is difficult to differentiate Eimeria species in a mixed infection, as there is overlapping in size and shape of oocysts. The only species that can be identified is Eimeria maxima (although in mixed infection with E. brunetti, you will not be able to ensure the presence of E. brunetti, and you risk to overestimate E. maxima population). Furthermore, if you can differentiate the species, it will be difficult to know the intensity of initial infection, for prolificacy varies from one species to another...
MacMaster can be used if you are accustomed to recognize the species morphologically, but with caution. After 20 years working with them, I never guarantee what I see...
