Content language integrated learning (CLIL) is the out come of needs analysis of language learners in a particular discipline. The opinion of each ESP practitioner may vary in this regard. Therefore, in order to get a clear understanding this question has been raised.
The role of a teacher has changed with the passage of time. Therefore, the ESP practitioner should work as a scaffolder as well as an instructor at the same time.
ESP programmes are designed for students who want to improve their English in a certain professional field of study, normally taught at university, whereas the CLIL approach is said to be successful and to help to improve students' foreign language competence. An ESP should be able to integrate CLIL.
Thank you Dr. Faisal Akbar Ansari for your answer. You are absolutely right in your definition on 'ESP programmes' and 'CLIL approach'. All the more interestingly you have made a clear mention that that ESP programmes should integrate CLIL.
CLIL is content and language integrated learning and ESP represents extra-sensory perception.
ESP practitioner has a very important role in the CLIL. ESP practitioner have to deal with the different content and various languages and integrate them in accordance with the audience or population to which he/ she have deal with.
So, ESP practitioner should have following qualities:
1. Command over various languages of the internet of audience
2. Good communication skills
3. Knowledge and awareness of various terms and terminology common to people of interest
4. Good sense of humor
5. Ability to make connections with people
6. Needs and requirements of audience
7. Adequate personality
8. Open mindedness
9. Adaptability
10. Good listening skills

Your list of the ESP practitioner's qualities is wonderful.
1. Language needs of Learners' interest is the most important thing for an ESP Practitioner. In order to cater the needs of the learners ESP practitioner should have command over language that is being taught, naturally it involves good communication skills from the part of the ESP practitioner. 2. Knowledge and awareness of the students' discipline-based subjects (the subjects undertaken for their profession) is also the most important thing for an ESP practitioner.
3. ESP practitioner should be able to make connections with the his/her students' language content, needs to fulfill the requirements of his learners who are his audience of course.
4. The ESP practitioner's personality should be motivating and guiding the ESP learners.
5. Of course we as ESP practitioner, should be open minded, adaptable (flexible) and good listeners(active listeners) in order to cater the needs of our learners.
CLIL of course is one of the approaches that an ESP practitioner should practice. Wen-hsien Yang's (2006) paper titled 'ESP vs. CLIL: A coin of two sides or a continuum of two extremes?' will give you some insights in this regard.
