I'm looking for tassel firing symptoms of maize in high temperature stress, interested to know how exactly it happens and when should one consider it a firing symptoms rather than a senescence?
Tassel firing symptoms in maize can be easily indentified when the the tassel portion of the maize gets dried eventhough the remaining leaves intact are green in colour, generally in maize senescence starts from bottom to top, moreover the pollen has not been shred from the tassel. Tassel blast can cause a huge loss to reproductive efficiency in maize due to heat stress.
In my experience K deficiency is often involved. This is due to a decrease in the rate of stomatal closure when K is deficient. If I had your email I could send you a photo showing the effect in an N,P,K trial. My email address is [email protected] .
