Along with the power of the engine do we also need to take care of the suspension system for providing better comfort, I am trying to attach a turbocharger so that it can improve the power of the engine is it ok?
Turbo charger will ease the engine breathing. This assist better combustion of fuel there by increase in power output. The increase in the power will be minimal for the engine. Turbo chargers are employed in newer engines/sporty engine to get sufficient amount of air for combustion.
K so what will be the change in power with turbocharger of an engine generally we will hear that by using turbocharger we can downsize the engine so downsizing in the sense at least we can reduce one cylinder.
That is an incredibly vague question, it depends on the relationship between the size of your engine and turbi and RPM of your turbo. It's better to ask yourself what percentage power increase you would like and then implement an appropriately sized turbo. Downsizing does not necessarily mean reducing number of cylinders, you can also reduce the cylinder capacity.
no actually the question was in response to Thirumal Pattibai as he said that the power increase will be minimal, i have not worked with the turbo charger so before i am moving on i am just confirming what i read is correct, can we have a chance of getting more power or only a little change that's all.
20-30% increase with minimal engine mods, up to 50% with really good mating and engine mods. You will need to change the engine mapping to change spark timing/injection timing as well as quantity of fuel to maintain optimal a/f ratio. You also need to decide whether you want to give your driver low end torque (small turbo) or top speed (big turbo). Does that help?
Also remember your turbo is not giving power, its the extra air allowing more fuel to be burned resulting in the extra power
Refer this paper. you will get clarity. turbo chargers first employed in aero engines to get extra air at higher altitudes. Now it is employed in automobiles to get extra air for reduced emissions (due to lean mixtures) and extra power.
