What effect does the injection volume has on the GC analysis (quantitative)?

I am using peak areas to calculate moles so as to get conversion and selectivity for the reaction I run. I decreased the volume from what I have been using all along to get area that is within the calibration range, and now I am not sure what effect will that have on my calculations.

It varies, and that is why people just dilute or concentrate the sample prior to injection. You can overload the column or detector. Depending on what you are injecting you can 'foul' the detector too. The excipients in the sample can have a much bigger role in your chromatogram and actually prevent the baseline resolution you normally would obtain.
