What echocardiography parameters (TTE/ 2D or 3D TEE) do you commonly use to predict systolic anterior motion of anterior mitral leaflet after valve repair surgery?
one very nice and simple parameter is the rate between the diameter of the annulus and the distance of the leaflets coaptation. in normal valve is 0.8. More the coaptation is anterior more high is the risk of SAM after mitral repair. Height of PML and AML. Distance between coaptation and septum
I sincerely thank both of you for the great piece of information. But is it that a relatively longer AML would also predispose to SAM by creating a slack AML tissue in the LVOT? In that case what would be an AML:PML ratio that would predict SAM?
Dr Payam. We currently are using Philips IE 33 TEE machine. Can u please tell me how to measure the Aorta Mitral angle in that, plus how much narrowing will predict SAM?

Hi, Either an excessively long AMVL or PMVL may predispose to post-repair SAM. Another very important predictor is a MV-coaptation point to septum (C-Sept) distance
