Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of Computer Sciences. Simply, any computer algorithm or system simulates a human activity, called an artificial intelligence.
There are hundreds of examples, such as:
1- The computers currently have the ability to recognize the human faces, we called this process (face recognition).
2- Google Translator ( Translation process)
3- Auto-Driving Cars ...
4- Natural Language Process (NLP) which consists of tens of topics, such as text summarization, text mining, and text classification.
5- Games, the computers currently have the ability to play board games ( e.g. chess) against the humans, and beat them.
6- BioMedical Topics, BioInformatics Topics, and AstroInformatics Topics.
7- So on, ....
All of the above mentioned examples, are human activities, the researchers have created computer algorithms for simulating them, with fast and more accurate results.
This notion changes over time I think. By now, I would prefer a system capable of think and act LOGICALLY like human in a dynamic domain (background knowledge changes over time) through self-learning(Machine learning).
