I am working on methacylation of polysaccharides and came across a research paper that used a certain amount of methacrylic anhydride was added based on a calculation that used 5 Molar equivalent of the hydroxl groups per disaccharide repeating unit. My chemistry isn't that strong and I was wondering how this calculation came about and I would appreciate any help in the matter.
